The perfect onion chopper!
I got a nearly identical chopper at the state fair some 15yrs ago and found I really loved it more than I expected. About a year or two ago, the crank handle finally cracked under pressure… I’m pretty sure removing and replacing it after every use probably had something to do with it…. so I zip tied it together to prevent it from completely breaking apart. After noticing that the blades were in also in rough shape; I finally decided to get a new one.As I mentioned, the “Salsa Master Food Chopper” is pretty much identical to my old one. You can tell that all these salsa makers of the same look are fabricated from the same mold by different Chinese companies, with extremely minor differences….All these choppers have one “update” in common and that is the shape of the blades. My old chopper has 2 straight blades… sharp on one side and serrated on the other. This was so that you could turn clock wise and as things chopped and scooted around the sides, you could reverse the direction for a few turns. The new and improved blades are 3 curved blades at different levels. I think they should work even better; but if not I’ll update this. The improved egg separator also has a small hole in the bottom. Not sure if that improves it, but we’ll see.It also doesn’t come with the whip attachment for liquids, so I’ll just keep the old orig one since it works with the new chopper bowl. The differences I’m not pleased with is…The “pouring spout” didn’t come with a stopper thing. It’s been my experience that if accidentally left it off; food, esp liquids, will shoot out of it. Unfortunately this new chopper’s spout is about 1/8″ longer than my old chopper’s so the spout cover can’t be transferred… for this reason alone I would give 4-1/2 Stars if I could. The new chopper also is missing the handle by design. While it makes fitting it inside a cupboard easier, I do prefer a proper handle so my husband managed to transfer the old handle onto the new chopper (it has the orig handle holder part).Sadly, since the plastic post inside the old orig chopper bowl that the blades fit over won’t fit the new blades, I can’t keep the orig bowl as back up.All in all, I think I’ll be happy with my new replacement chopper. Except for the lack of a spout “plug”.

Best salsa maker ever!
I first bought one of these salsa makers at the State Fair about 25 years ago, where they were demonstrating them by making pico de gallo, which was the best I had ever tasted. I have been using one ever since. It makes the best pico de gallo/salsa. It’s so easy and convenient to use and you can quickly mix up a batch of your favorite kind in no time. I also use it to chop up all kinds of vegetables (onions, tomatoes, celery, lettuce, cabbage) to use in soups, coleslaw, chopped salads, hashbrowns, tuna and egg salad, omelettes, relishes, dressings, etc. I have had ones with bigger bowls, but prefer the smaller one. It’s easier to use with smaller batches instead of cramming too much in the bowl. That puts a lot of stress on the maker and if it’s too full, it is difficult to turn. At times I have put probably too much in the bowl, and with continual use, it eventually cracked. I honestly think it was because of the stress that I was putting on the bowl by trying to chop too much at once and the vegetables were probably in too big of pieces,. So I’ve since learned that you cut the portions down and chop up in smaller batches. Some veggies need to be cut down or quartered before you put in. I use mine all of the time. I do hand wash mine instead of putting it in the dishwasher. If I have used it a lot, and I’ve had a lot of shredded items chopped up in the bowl, I will soak the lid in water to just make sure it cleans out all the nooks and crannies. I have never had trouble with any of the blades going dull, and mine have stayed very very sharp, and you do have to be careful when you are washing the unit that you don’t cut your fingers. The salsa master that I have just purchased here appears to be a very fine quality, it is durable, it works perfectly, and it appears to me that it will last a long time. I’ve already made several batches of salsa, mixed up some coleslaw, chopped up vegetables for soup, and chopped up onions and tomatoes and jalapeños for a relish that I like to put on my hotdogs and hamburgers. The salsa maker has become a regular part of my kitchen routine and there are endless possibilities for its use. I will never be without one and this one works perfectly.

Just needs suction cups
I love this chopper and have used it many times over the past 2 years. My only request would be to have some suction cups on the bottom. Sometimes the veggies are a little harder to chop and it’s difficult to hold the chopper steady. Overall, it does a great job for what it is intended.

perfect salsa!
well after reading the reviews, I thought- WELL! not a lot to lose but if it works, OK! I wanted the chunky salsa that didn’t leave my tomatoes a gooey mess with all that runny juices. Well the other reviewer DID NOT!!!!- let me down- thank you!! I have used this item a number of times, mostly right as company is arriving. After several shots, I have my recommendation to others:1- start with the green pepper (by itself) and rotate to your desired size. The double blade is very quick so keep an eye on the cuttings size until you master this thing- it will go nuts!!! I like small to med chucks of peppers. Open lid and remove as much as possible into a bowl2- throw in the jalapeno pepper in cut quarters. I like this very fine so I give it a couple extra turns, then remove.3-onions, I cut the onions in 1/8 slices and toss in,,, now could it do bigger chunks, yeah, but just not taking the chance when all it takes is an extra 3 seconds. This does two things, the unit spins quick off the bat, and I like the onions pieces 1/4″ cubes in size, no finer, and this will knock out a whole onion to perfect size in seconds. Don’t shed a tear and remove.4- I then throw in the cilantro, as someone posted, this unit does not handle this too well so I diced it up fairly fine then threw it in for a final cut. Then removed5- Last- tomatoes! I chop one tomato at a time and since it only takes seconds,,, not a big deal since I use 3-4 big ones! I cut the tomato into 1/8’s after removing the stem. This also allows the unit to make uniform size chunks, this does not take much turning so be careful here! I like my tomatoes to be ~ size of onions or bit larger. This thing will slice those pieces to perfection without turning it into a gooey mess- just PERFECT!!! After finishing the tomatoes, I throw in a squeeze of lime and other seasonings and stir.I can’t tell you how impress with this the neighbors are,lid locks quickly, cleans with a rinse, all parts fit into the chopping bowl cavity including the crank (always turn clockwise!), stainless steel blades and no sign of rust even with all this acidic contact!! I am not spending $10 for that little jar of “home made stuff” anymore- this, I crank out enough to last several days and stay perfect in the frig, could it last longer? well I guess I need to make something a lot bigger than 4 tomatoes cause it is GONE!!!! to quick, flavor of this has made this a true must for the kitchen. And if you like omelets with tomatoes, mushrooms, etc,,, this will knock it out in 10 seconds- I would not recommend overloading this thing, the quality of cut is not there and you could break the geardrive- not worth saving a couple seconds
